Export documentation is required by SAP Licensing (customs) and ITAC (International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa) if you would like to export your vehicle permanently, or go on holiday to a foreign country in your vehicle, in which case you will need a Temporary Export Clearance. We will obtain all documentation for you including letters of authority (LoA).

The NRCS (National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications) requires import documentation to be completed if you are intending to import a vehicle or you have legally imported a vehicle. Red Tape has more than 20 years of vehicle import experience.

Every vehicle in South Africa requires a police clearance certificate for transfer of ownership, engine changes, exports and imports, as well as cross border visits.

All individuals and companies wanting to import/export vehicles and goods exceeding the value of R150,000 in a calendar year must be registered as importers/exporters in South Africa.

Red Tape is a licensed fitter of data dots, a SARPCCO legal requirement for all vehicles requiring any police clearance. Data dots are numbered pixels that are registered to your vehicle on the ENatis system, and also sprayed on the underside of your vehicle with an ultraviolet coating. Note: All cars produced post June-2013 will already be fitted with data dots as part of release from factory.

A CBCA certificate, or Consignment-Based Conformity Assessment certificate, is a document verifying that imported goods meet the required standards and regulations of a country, particularly in Africa, to facilitate customs clearance and protect consumers from substandard or dangerous products. A CBCA certificate serves as proof that imported goods comply with the safety, quality, and performance standards set by regulatory agencies or industry organizations in the importing country - and must be presented to customs authorities upon arrival.
